OSNPPH members who take on the role of Liaison Representative for OSNPPH have the opportunity to represent OSNPPH on workgroups and committees of many associations, government bodies, and not-for-profit organizations.

OSNPPH is affiliated with the following:

Association of Local Public Health Associations (alpha)

The Association of Local Public Health Agencies is a not for-profit organization that provides leadership to boards of health and public health units in Ontario. As a member of alPHa, OSNPPH receives a vote as a Board of Directors member. OSNPPH brings forward nutrition-related issues for Board discussion and action, and provides input into alPHa decisions on a variety of public health issues.

The Ontario Collaborative Group on Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (OCGHEPA)

The Ontario Collaborative Group on Healthy Eating and Physical Activity is a provincial collaboration of health professionals from organizations dedicated to addressing population-based issues related to healthy eating and physical activity. The OCGHEPA provides a forum for OSNPPH members to advocate for comprehensive approaches to address these issues.

Folic Acid Alliance of Ontario (FAAO)

Formed in 1996, the FAAO is a working group of health-related organizations and individuals committed to reducing the incidence of neural tube defects by promoting the consumption of folic acid. As a representative, OSNPPH provides public health nutrition expertise and input regarding the public education and awareness campaign.

Health Check Ad Hoc Committee

The Health Check Ontario Program Advisory Program Committee will support the development and growth of the Ontario Restaurant Program. The OSNPPH representative is responsible for creating awareness and knowledge of the of the Health Check program for RDs in public Health and will act as a liaison between the two groups.

Nutrition Resource Centre

The Nutrition Resource Centre acts as a forum for sharing provincial strategies, and identifying needs. Membership in the Nutrition Resource Centre consists of representatives from key provincial organizations and programs in nutrition promotion. As a member, OSNPPH provides strategic input to the Nutrition Resource Centre on key nutrition issues such as: nutrition promotion strategies and resources, linking and cross-referencing nutrition programs, and addressing gaps in nutrition programming.

The Ontario Council on Community Health Accreditation (OCCHA)

OCCHA is committed to promoting accountability and excellence in public health programs and services. The accreditation process is the tool by which OCCHA ensures that public health units are meeting established standards of practice for public health. As a member, OSNPPH has the opportunity to direct the accreditation process and other Continuous Quality Improvement processes undertaken by The Ontario Council on Community Health Accreditation (OCCHA).

Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA)

The mission of the Ontario Public Health Association is to provide leadership on issues affecting the public's health and to strengthen the impact of people who are active in public and community health throughout Ontario. OSNPPH is a Constituent Society of the Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA) and is represented on the OPHA Board of Directors, the Nutrition Resource Group, OPHA Food Security and OPHA Breastfeeding Promotion workgroups.

OPHA Breastfeeding Promotion Workgroup

The purpose of the OPHA Breastfeeding Promotion Workgroup is to develop a process to act on the recommendations outlined in the Position Paper on Breastfeeding adopted by OPHA at their 1993 Annual General Meeting. As a member of the workgroup, OSNPPH is involved in curriculum development, supporting the development of an Ontario Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) strategy, and media advocacy.

OPHA Food Security Workgroup

The aim of the OPHA Food Security Workgroup is to coordinate community food security advocacy and policy development through the collaboration of a variety of community groups and organizations. The Workgroup uses its FoodNet Website and the FoodNet List Serve to facilitate discussion among organizations involved in food security. As a member, OSNPPH is involved in all aspects of the OPHA Food Security Workgroup.

Pan-Canadian Task Force on Public Health Nutrition Practice

The committee provides strategic guidance and expert advice on a Pan-Canadian initiative to develop competencies that are unique to public health nutrition. As such it plays a role in strengthening the public health workforce in Canada. Membership on the committee includes public health nutrition representatives from almost every province.

Public Health Research, Education & Development Program (PHRED)

PHRED is a program involving boards of health, health science programs of Ontario universities and colleges and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, which contributes to health promotion, health protection, and the prevention of health problems among residents of Ontario. OSNPPH participates in discussions related to public health nutrition research and practice.
