The resources on this page have been developed by members of the Child Care Working Group, a subgroup of the Family Health Nutrition Advisory Group. Members are registered dietitians who work within the Family Health requirements of the Ontario Public Health Standards (2008) and collaborate with child care providers by providing nutrition support, screening tools, menu reviews as well as training and other resources. We believe child care settings play an essential role in helping children develop a lifelong healthy relationship with food through establishing a healthy eating environment.

This technical document was developed to help support implementation of updated regulatory requirements for licensed child care settings as set out under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA). This document expands on the Child Care Centre Licensing Manual issued by the Ministry of Education, which covers aspects of a supportive nutrition environment and provides recommendations and rationale based on Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide and Nutrition for Health Term Infants. Plans are to develop tools and resources to help child care centres with interpretation and implementation of these guidelines.
